Discouraged in the way things are going in your life? There are many things in this life that can weigh us down and keep us down if we let them. Let us learn a lesson from the psalmist: In Psalm 42:5-9 we read: "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? The psalmist was discouraged. He was downhearted. He felt like his problems came wave after wave. He cried out for relief and comfort. He remembered who God is and what He does. He remembered that God had been faithful to encourage him in the past and realized that God would be faithful to encourage him now. So he changed his focus from being on himself and his circumstances to being on God. That's the key! He told himself: "Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. When we are feeling overwhelmed by whatever we find ourselves in, let us look to the Lord for our help. Jesus said "let not your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe in Me!" Jesus is described as "A Man of sorrows" (Isaiah 53:3) He went through more tough times and experienced more "sorrows" that any of us. He knows exactly what we go through in this life. Let us trust God in these difficult days we are living in. He will be faithful to lift our soul as we praise Him. He is our Rock and He "will command the presence of His lovingkindness" to be with us in these times. He will give us peace (Philippians 4:6-7) He brings hope. He gives relief. He will never let us be tested more than what we are able to bear. Troubled and cast down? Let us have our soul comforted by looking to our great God and Savior Jesus Christ!
